Talibon Has 50 New Hilots!

Under the Sustainable Livelihood Program of DSWD, 50 “Hilots” (Wellness Massage Therapists) graduated from their 15-day training and received their TESDA National Certificates II from Mayor Restituto B. Auxtero in simple yet solemn rites at the SB Session Hall on May 31, 2017 in the morning.

The trainees mostly came from impoverished families, members of Pantawid, although a few came from neighboring towns who were invited to fill up vacant slots.

The group, who were trained in two (2) batches at Talibon’s Community-Based Training Center, were trained by Professionals from the Center for Health Care Professions Cebu Inc. which is TESDA affiliated. Main Trainer was Ms. Jessica Tabuñag (the one in a black dress and wearing eyeglasses). Ms. Gina Nacua (in a black & white dress), who represented the Management of CHCPI, assisted Mayor Auxtero during the Graduation Ceremony.

The trainees were well taken cared-of….provided with snacks and lunches for the whole duration of the training. Those who were located far from the Training Center were given allowances for fare and those from the island barangays were booked in lodging houses. Overseeing all trainings is Ms. Kathy Cielo G. Evangelista, the DSWD SLP Project Development Officer.

In his inspiring message, Mayor Auxtero imparted that with the NC II Certificates in hand now, the graduates can apply for jobs abroad as Wellness Massage Therapists. And there are more trainings coming. In fact, more than 18 skills trainings are lined up to help uplift the life of impoverished families and those who were victims of drug abuse.

Pantawid families and drug victims are given a new leash to life by choosing the training that they find affinity in. Skills training in Driving, Security Services, Cookery, Cellphone Repair, Hair Cutting Services, Pedicure/Manicure Services, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (Batch I) and now the “Hilot”, have recently culminated. Welding (Batch II), Masonry, Refrigeration & Airconditioning, Food & Beverages are on-going. All for FREE.

The Local Government Unit of Talibon with the help of DSWD has envisioned a progressive Talibon with all constituents contributing to it. The means are given. Needed all throughout are lots of patience, perseverance, dedication and hard work! Are you up to the challenge? (ellenmarieobuno)
