Barangay Magsaysay Recipient of 4 Big Projects

On December 9, 2016, Barangay Magsaysay played host to Bohol dignitaries who came from different parts of Bohol for the Blessing/Ribbon Cutting/Groundbreaking of 4 big projects, namely: 1) Concrete Farm to Market Road courtesy of Congressman Aristotle Aumentado; 2) Water System from Gawad Kalinga; 3) Oil Extractor from DOST; and the ground breaking for 4) Housing & Training Center from GK/DAR.  All projects with a sizable counterpart from LGU Talibon.

All gathered at the Magsaysay Barangay Hall at first for early snacks and then proceeded to the site of the Oil Extractor.  This mostly DOST funded project is located farthest from the Hall and composed of a small building and the oil extractor placed outside it.  This project is the first of its kind; in fact, Barangay Magsaysay was chosen as a pilot project whose main aim is to give support to this remote barangay by sharing technology for community empowerment.  The project was approved with an appropriation of P610,000.00.  Gawad Kalinga provides the water much needed in the operation of the extractor.

So gathered the VIPs:  Congressman “Aris” Aumentado and Party; representative of the Governor Edgar M. Chatto in the person of Tatay Billy Tongco; representative of Vice-Gov. Dionisio D. Balite, a Mr. Oroyan; Board Member “Aga” Avenido; Talibon Municipal Mayor Hon. Restituto B. Auxtero; his Vice Hon. Cleto Garcia and SB Member Apolinario Artiaga.  Aside from LGU office such as the Office of the Agriculturist, offices such as DAR, DENR, DOST, DA, GK and from the 2nd District Engineering Office were also represented.

Next on the itinerary was the groundbreaking at the proposed 20-units housing site aptly named the President Carlos P. Garcia GK Village; a project long envisioned by GK and finally to start after the Department of Agrarian Reform (DA) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) have given their go signal.  More housing units are envisioned for the marginalized poor in the near future.

The next ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the site where a large water reservoir rests; a project of GK with an LGU counterpart.  The reservoir will provide the much needed water to the oil extractor and the coming community of settlers.

Next in the agenda is the ribbon cutting of the newly paved/cemented road leading to the main area of Magsaysay.  Funding of this project was made possible through the efforts of Congressman “Aris” Aumentado.  Said road is envisioned to connect Talibon to the town of Danao and would, if pushed through, shorten travel time from Talibon to the City of Tagbilaran.

Turnover ceremonies were then enacted at the Magsaysay Activity Center; the proponents of each project took turns in handing over the ceremonial key to the beneficiaries.  Appropriate talks were given one by one by the Heads of Offices and guests.

Last but not the least was the awarding of the Community Based Forest Management Agreement (CBFMA) by DENR wherein the Magsaysay Farmers Association was given jurisdiction over the whole Magsaysay Forest Timberland Area by the DENR; the formal document handed over by DENR’s representative, Mr. Anecito Suarez to the Association’s President in the person of Zenaida Aparece.  Before festive lunch was served, members of the Magsaysay Women’s Organization showed off their dancing skills to the guests and crowd.

It was a big affair for Barangay Magsaysay wherein the people felt blessed for the various projects handed out to them; actually not 4 but 5 gifts to the people of Magsaysay was given that day including the CBFMA.  More projects were promised by the VIPs and the people look forward to them.  More developmental projects will surely boost up their dwindling economy and give hope to the mostly unemployed community.
