Sr. Citizens Received Much Awaited Social Pensions
A total of 588 senior citizens, out of the listed 610, who are members of the Federation of Senior Citizen’s Association Talibon Chapter, received their social pensions on June 10, 2016. Pay-out budget is P915,000.00.
The policy is, NO I.D. NO PAY! Twenty two (22) failed to show up or did not bring with them the necessary documents to identify themselves with. To claim their pensions, the old folks have to present their senior citizen identification cards. Others, understandably because of old age and failing memories, failed to bring the required I.D.s.
I pity the seniors. Some can barely walk and have to be escorted by their next of kin. Breakfast was skipped by many to be able to show up and be first in line. Payout was slow. Fearing to leave their posts, many waited for their pay even past midday and the pangs of hunger have to be endured for some time.
The meager pension of P1,500.00 each means so much to the seniors and they look forward to every pay-out. A chunk of what they receive covers maintenance medicines, yet, it is also a time for them to splurge on their favorite food and buy other necessities. And so be it! Let them be happy, even for a day! Heavens knows, they deserve more. (ellenmarieobuno)
