Origin of the Name Sto. Niño

Formerly, this barangay was a part of San Jose Norte. Before its creation, this progressive sitio was called “Tagum”, a word used to name a creek located in the place. It was also known as “Botong”, a name given to one of the species of the tallest grass growing along the sides of Tagum creek. Later it was changed to San Jose Sur being located opposite its mother barangay, San Jose Norte. Finally, the barrio folks agreed to rename their barangay in honor of the Holy Infant Jesus (Santo Niño), who was also their patron saint.
